Established
in 1957 to advance the discipline of industrial design at the international
level, ICSID is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation supported
by professional, promotional, educational, associate and corporate
member societies on all continents.
Through its Members, the direct audience of ICSID consists of approximately
150,000 professionals and students who, in turn, have an effective
influence on tenfold more who work in and with the design profession.
Today, ICSID facilitates co-operation and interaction among its
more than 150 member societies in over 50 countries, providing a
global force through which independent organisations can combine
resources and efforts.
Activities
ICSID works in co-operation with its Member Societies to facilitate
workshops, seminars, conferences, regional meetings, exhibitions
and congresses about design.
Education
The ICSID Education Strategic Plan is a foundation for the establishment
of a long-term strategy. The major aim of the Strategic Plan is
to reinforce industrial design education by providing ICSID Members,
educational institutions, industry and the public with a platform
for exchanging ideas and directions.
Publications
In order to foster communication and interaction, ICSID produces
various publications including directories, guidelines, the 'Hall
of Fame' book and papers related to ongoing ICSID projects.
The Design Institute South Africa is a promotional member of ICSID.
The Design Institute manager, Ms Adrienne Viljoen, is a member of
the ICSID Executive Board and is the ICSID Regional Advisor for
Africa.
