Hosting Interdesign 2005 was Adrienne Viljoen, Manager Design Institute SABS and an ICSID Board Member. The Project Director was Esme Kruger, also of the Design Institute SABS. Bart Verveckken, head of the Industrial Design School at the Cape Penninsula University of Technology, was appointed Design Director for the event.

The Design Institute South Africa, a division of the South African Bureau of Standards, project managed the Interdesign 2005 event.

The Design Institute South Africa, a division of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), fosters the economic and technological development of South Africa through promoting the benefits of design. The ultimate aim is to improve the prosperity of the entire population.

The Design Institute South Africa's design promotional mandate functions in four areas:

  • Education: nuturing and developing design leadership and promoting design as a career
  • Industry: stimulating new product development;
  • Marketing of South Africa as an innovative, industrialised country: recognising and acknowledging South African design excellence
  • Development of South Africa: reaching into Africa through through focused design projects for developing communities in rural and urban areas.
